On the drive from Melbourne to Sydney (Taken with instagram)
It was the opening of our show last night at Richard Martin’s and it started off pouring with rain and we were so worried that it would be a bad turn out because of the horrible weather. But it was a great night and thanks to everyone for their wonderful support.
This was my speech.
Thank you all for joining us at “Wild at Heart”. We hope you really enjoy the show because we had a lot of fun working on it.
Marc and I started painting together about 15 years ago, which is pretty amazing and still everyday I feel how lucky we are. It’s been an incredible journey, which has carried us to the most wonderful places both emotionally and literally.
When we looked at developing this show we realised that for the past 15 years of our art as Gillie and Marc we have had one constant, besides each other of course, and that is we have always followed our HEART with passion when it comes to creating. I don’t believe we have ever placed restrictions on our ideas. Infact our mantra is to always be WILD with our dreams.
So this exhibition is a celebration of the last 15 years, working as one, and how much we believe in being “Wild at Heart”.
Now you may have noticed that we have a couple of new subject additions on the walls. Our dog human which has brought us so much joy in his travels needed a little joy of his own.
The wonderful news is he recently met his soul mate in the rabbit human, who is pretty cute. Now we all know that dogs and rabbits are probably not the best of friends, but as supporters of ALL marriages … we thought a dog and rabbit make a perfect couple and I am happy to say they do as well.
In narrative pictorials we have shown their journey in life and their shared passions. Their love and support for each other allows to them to truly follow their dreams.
And I am happy to say that their final dream came true a couple of weeks ago with their beautiful baby boy “Jeronomo Spectacular”. We have no idea why they called him that except you know those arty couples..
We are so excited about our upcoming show with Richard Martin in Woollahra!
‘Wild at Heart’ is a collection of paintings and sculptures that celebrate love, partnership and creativity. Our dogman who represents the wild spirit within all humans is featured with his female companion as they explore the world.
In these semi-autobiographical works, we represent our own partnership painting together as one on every canvas and bronze, in a true union of life and art.
We invite everyone to join us for drinks on our opening night from 6-8 on December the 7th. Check out the link for address details and hope to see you all there! http://www.richardmartinart.com.au/pages/exhibition_details.php?exhibitionID=123
Some more snap shots of us working together, something we love to do!
He we are in our studio together, surrounded by all our artwork
We recently popped into the Art Gallery of NSW to see the new wing and look at the John Kaldor collection.
This amazing piece by Patricia Piccinini titled The Comforter caught our eye as did this little boy in the picture. He was visiting the gallery with his grandmother and when she saw the artwork for the first time she gasped and was quite taken aback, it was quite obvious that the sculpture had had an effect on her. Then she looked at her little grandson worried that maybe he would feel the same as her but he was happy and smiling at the sculpture and then said, ‘look, it’s a little girl giving her baby a cuddle’
The grandmother looked at me plainly surprised that he had not noticed the fur on the girls body and then we both smiled at eachother at the realisation that the childs perspective was so different to ours … innocent, refreshing and non-judgemental.

Our latest painting .. Title: Their Tour de France was filled with passion, love, and romance, but not much cycling.
… “Your children are not your children. They come through you but not from you, and though they are with you yet they belong not to you. You may give them your love but not your thoughts, for they have their own thoughts. You may house their bodies but not their souls, for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams. You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth. The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far. Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness; for even as He loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.”
Our latest piece titled; They remembered that Bear Grylls always told them to check the depth before jumping but that was a tv show and this was life.
‘Sometimes you just have to go for it’ Gillie Schattner
Just finished this painting, inspired by Master Chef and also my mum’s suggestion. ‘Paint them cooking’ she said and so we did … had to be cooking cakes though … yum!
